WSSA – VERBIER 2019 WINTER REVIEW + COMING UP NEXT AT THE ACADEMY
The ski season has officially finished here in Verbier. It’s quite difficult to believe because as we sit and type this final blog of the winter, the mountains and trees are still caked in snow and have never looked better!
As always the season passes by in the blink of an eye but we can honestly say that this past 6 months has been up there with one of the best we have experienced for lots of different reasons.
It began back in November in Cervinia and Zermatt for our incredibly popular Autumn program where we made the most of the fabulous conditions high up on the Plateau Rosa glacier. These courses are an Academy members favourite as they provide the perfect scene for some early training and technical attention ahead of the approaching winter.
After 5 weeks in Cervinia the team then the moved back to our winter home of Verbier.
Winter certainly came early with some huge snowfalls which set up our pre Christmas courses brilliantly. Academy 5 day courses, Supergroups and our industry leading Level 3/4 Ski Instructor Training course took place. This early season period is often the best time to ski in the alps. Quite slopes, great snow and good accommodation deals are worth taking advantage of before the holiday period begins.
January saw the temperatures plummet and a number of different Academy programs take place. Moguls 5 day courses, more off piste supergroups and our Gap Year Ski Instructor Training course filled a fab month with some amazing snow that stretched way down to the valley floor.
Next on the schedule was our annual trip to the powder capital of the world, Japan. Now in its 10th year, the Japan Powder Camp is a well established classic in the Academy’s calendar. It was great to welcome back a number of people who use this trip as one of their regular ski holidays as well as some new Academy members who wanted to experience the Japanese powder and culture for the very first time.
Details on next years trip will be live soon, so if you are interested in finding out more or you would like to join the list of our interested skiers make sure you drop us a line!
February is holiday season in the Alps and the Academy team were running at full speed ahead with all sorts of courses plus lots of private 1 to 1 sessions. We’ve certainly seen a big increase in people wanting more of a catered private coaching experience and we are keen to build on this in the future.
March has historically been one of the busiest months at the Academy. A solid base of snow has generally been put in place and the shorter winter days start to turn the corner into spring.
This month also hosts the Academy’s flagship course with our Heli-Ski Camp to Revelstoke, Canada. This was our 3rd trip to this stunning place and it quite simply has to be seen to be believed.
Two days of Academy boot camp on the lift accessed Revelstoke Mountain is then followed by 5 days of life changing heliskiing in the B.C wilderness. Hosted by CMH and Pure Powder, this trip certainly combines the best of the best when it comes to the complete ski experience. Next years trip is already online and taking bookings fast! Get in touch with our pals at Pure Powderasap to find out more and secure your spot!
April and our late season courses delivered once again in so many ways. Quite slopes combined with quality snow confirmed that Spring Skiing is as good as time as any in the mountains! The final week saw some classic late season snowfalls which rewarded everyone who ventured up the mountain. It’s become very common over the last 5 years which is why we’ve increased the number of our spring skiing courses in both Verbier and Cervinia.
This shift to a strong late season is one of the main factors as to why our Summer skiing program is so strong.

WHAT’S NEXT AT THE ACADEMY
In July and August, the Academy team will return to Cervinia to run our 5 day programs and Gap Year Ski Instructor Training courses. Pristine pistes and crystal clear skies help to create the ultimate learning environment for anyone wanting to crack their ski technique and experience the perfect mountain holiday in jaw dropping surroundings. For more information please contact the team today.
If you just can’t wait that long before your next snow fix, our UK one day courses begin at the Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead and Chill Factore, Manchester. These spring indoor sessions are hugely popular due to the high intensity and focused approach the Academy coaches use in these brilliant facilities. Quick turn arounds and more drills and skills you can shake a ski pole at making sure you will not leave as the same skier!
All that remains to be said is A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that has passed through the Academy doors over the last 6 months. We massively appreciate your time, energy and enthusiasm. It’s you guys that keep the Academy team pushing the limits of our coaching and developing our products to help move with our members.
If you have been with us this season we’d love it if you would like, comment and share on our social feeds to help spread the word of what we do and to help our valued community grow!
