Summer skiing on the glacier

Summer ski courses with The Academy.

Skiing in the summer, you must be mad! Well maybe, mad about skiing!

We run our summer Academy courses high up on the glacier above the resorts of Zermatt, Switzerland and Cervinia, Italy. Usually the reserve of lycra clad ski racers and those with a penchant for freestyle. We have been infiltrating this high alpine arena to provide world class coaching for recreational skiers for over 10 years.

There is a reason why many professional snowsports athletes train on snow in the Summer, the more time on skis the better you get. Why wait over 7 Months for the return of the winter? And yes conditions can be that good.

But our summer courses are about so much more than just the skiing.

So much more than just skiing.

Whilst a large focus of our summer programme is of course Skiing, the beauty of summertime in the Alps is not to be overlooked. We rise early and due to it being summer we finish skiing by 1pm, leaving the rest of the day to enjoy the best of the Alps in the summer.

We have regular summer attendees who are not only mad about skiing and improving, but love what the rest of their holiday can include.

Our summer base in Cervinia is home to spectacular alpine scenery in the shadow of the Cervin (yes it’s the Matterhorn), whilst not the classic view it is as the Italians like to say “the more artistic side”. From here there are countless possibilities for hiking in the valley and the alpine. The temperatures are warm in the town during the day, mid to high 20’s, perfect for just soaking up some sun, enjoying the peace and quiet with a book, a drink or just your thoughts. Much cooler in the evenings so make sure you always have an extra layer for when the sun goes down

A summer Afternoon in the Alps.

With stunning scenery that can be explored on foot, pack a drink and some snacks and get lost (metaphorically) in high alpine meadows, the forest or up on the rocks. Look out for marmottes, eagles, chamois, bouquetin, or just some nice cows. The natural environment is spectacular up here. Jump in alpine streams or emerald green lakes to cool off, the water is fresh to say the least.

Cervinia is also home to an 18 hole golf course nestled below town with some incredible holes, plus your ball goes further at altitude.

If you feel the need for a little more adrenaline there is great mountain biking all around. Whether under your own steam, or with the assistance of a battery, offered by the latest e-mountain bikes. Bike hire is readily available in town, even if you are not a full blown mountain biker there are some more gentle routes to get you up and away from the crowds.

Of course, being Italy it is perfectly acceptable to enjoy an aperitivo or  just a gelato and watch the world go by. Readying yourself for one of the great restaurants that surround the town.

Go on, come and see what you can discover in the Alps during the summer.

For those who need a little more than a book by a pool.
